Photo Festival: Slow Exposures 2011

Earlier this month, I attended a photo festival in Pike County, Georgia, called Slow Exposures.  I was juried into the competition and decided I should go and see what it was about.  I'm so glad I did.

Slow Exposures is dedicated to celebrating the rural south. In addition to the juried show, Slow Exposures also holds a portfolio review, workshops, guest lectures, a ball and satellite shows. Part of what makes the show interesting isn't just the events, it's the people and the locations.

Radcliffe Bailey at The High

Thursday evening, I went to a lecture given by Radcliffe Bailey who has a large and significant exhibition on display at The High Museum in Atlanta.  This is the third time I've heard Mr. Bailey speak about his work.

20 Years and Counting

Today, my husband and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary.

We met in church. I've known him since I was 11 and he was 15. We were married by the pastor who baptized me. We got married 10 years after we met, so at this point, I've been married to him for almost half my life.

My Art-filled, Sporty, Hot Summer Vacation

I have just wrapped up a busy two-week vacation.  We never left the state, but there was plenty here to do. The first week was divided between going to exhibits and events for the National Black Arts Festival,  and taking my kids to their chosen day camps.

Saturday Afternoon Street Fairs, The Performers

I spent the most time at the street fairs I went to late last month taking pictures of the performers.  The most interesting ones, and the most difficult to make photos of, were the Capoeira performers.
